Figure Drawing, Continued Foreshortening Foreshortening is the visible distortion in width and length of an object when viewed in perspective.    An object slanting toward or away from the viewer seems to diminish in size and change shape. Keen observation and practice are keys to determining the amount of foreshortening required to realistically portray  figures. Figure 3-38 shows foreshortened cylinders.
