PHYSICAL READINESS PROGRAM

LEARNINGOBJECTIVE: Recognize the policies and procedures pertaining to the Physical Readiness Program.

The policies governing this program are outlined in OPNAVINST 6110.1. Currently, physical readiness testing is required for all personnel on a semi-annual basis. Testing, education, and training advice are provided through a network of collateral duty command fitness coordinators. In addition to the requirement for program implementation by each subordinate command, Medical Department responsibilities are

providing technical assistance to BUPERS,

conducting lifestyle, fitness, and obesity research,

reviewing health status and granting waivers for those individuals unable to safely participate in physical fitness testing and training, and

assisting in the development of exercise prescriptions.
