Subrefraction Conditions When SUBREFRACTION conditions occur, N increases with height (a positive N-gradient). Subrefraction conditions cause electromagnetic waves to bend upward, into the atmosphere, Figure 6-3-4.-Effect of normal-refraction conditions on radar. See figure 6-3-5. The stronger the gradient, the greater the degree of bending. Radar ranges are significantly reduced under these conditions. |
