Figure 5-29 - Typical FP 180 water motor proportioner system (water control valve) through an actuation control valve. The control line for the powertrol valve is connected downstream of the hytrol valve. As water is discharged through the hytrol valve, the water flow pressurizes the inlet hose of the water motor proportioner and the operating chamber of the powertrol valve, thus causing the valve to open. As the water flows through the water motor proportioner, the rotary gear pump injects a metered amount of AFFF concentrate into the water stream of the water motor proportioner discharge, thus producing AFFF/water solution. Some ships use powertrol valves for both the water and the AFFF concentrate control valves. The basic theory of operation is the same for both.
